Wheelchair users and their assistants have a free admittance to the museum!

Despite the building preservation order and the several unavoidable stairways inside the building, we try to make it possible for visitors with impaired mobility to visit the Museum für Völkerkunde Hamburg. Visiting the museum in a wheelchair or similar device is possible in nearly all of our departments. Since the elevators are not open to the public area of the building, supervisory personnel are happy to help you with questions and finding and using the elevators.
Parking spaces for handicapped persons are located in front of the main entrance on Rothenbaumchaussee (2 spots) as well as on Binderstraße, in front of house number 14, near the side entrance of the museum (1 spot).

Lecture theatre

Unfortunately it is impossible to visit the lecture theatres by wheel chair or walking frame,
because they aren’t barrier-free.

We are sorry about that, and accord free entrance to wheel chair users.
